President Donald Trump has approved Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee’s request for a major disaster declaration following flooding and severe storms earlier this year.
The approval makes federal assistance available for state and local recovery efforts in areas affected by severe storms, flooding, landslides, and mudslides from February 19 through March 30, 2019.
Gov. Lee’s disaster declaration request included 58 Tennessee counties, including Carter, Greene, Hancock, Hawkins, Johnson, and Unicoi counties in Northeast Tennessee.
Federal funding is available to state and local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations in those counties on a cost-sharing basis. Funding is also available for statewide hazard mitigation measures.
