JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WJHL) – Law enforcement in the Tri-Cities are taking part in a national movement to safely get rid of prescriptions drugs that are not needed.

Saturday is National Drug Take Back Day.

Police are asking you to clean out your medicine cabinets and safely get rid of unused, unwanted or expired prescription medications so they don’t end up in the wrong hands.

The Jonesborough Police Department is one of multiple local departments participating.

“Medications are very important to a patient’s health, but to take a medication that’s not prescribed to you would be a problem, so we want to make certain there’s not that temptation,” Dr. Charles Collins of the ETSU Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy said.

ETSU pharmacy students counted and checked the medications.

They will then be taken to Eastman for incineration, Dr. Collins said.
