JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) — The federal government has awarded Tri-Cities Airport nearly $1.8 million.

Congressman Phil Roe announced the grant Monday evening in a news release. Roe says the money will be used to improve the airport’s infrastructure. It will also fund the construction of a 34,000-square-foot yard for aircraft parking.

The airport will also be able to replace fourteen fire proximity suits to meet aircraft rescue and firefighting requirements.

The grant will also allow for repairs to a runway and taxiways.
