HAWKINS COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A worker with the Hawkins County Highway Department was transported to the hospital by helicopter after being hit by a vehicle on Stanley Valley Road Friday morning.
A crash report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) states that around 8:10 a.m., two highway department workers were standing at the rear of a parked Chevrolet dump truck owned by the department. The workers were reportedly performing maintenance on the road at the time.
According to the THP, a white Ford Fusion heading north on Stanley Valley Road hit one of the workers and the rear of the dump truck, briefly pinning the worker.
The report states the worker was flown to the Johnson City Medical Center for treatment of what the THP described as lower body injuries.
The driver of the Ford was charged with “due care,” according to the report. The driver was not injured in the crash.
Spokespeople from both the THP and the Hawkins County Rescue Squad were unable to speak to the worker’s condition as of Friday evening.
