The Town of Abingdon has announced it will discontinue its curbside recycling program at the end of the month.

The last week of the recycling service will be available June 24 – 28.

Residents will not see a difference on their waste collection bill, according to the Town of Abingdon.

Abingdon’s curbside, single-stream recycling program is contracted through Waste Management, Inc.

Abingdon town officials said the decision to discontinue the recycling service was a mutual agreement between the town and Waste Management due to the declining market for recycling materials.

Washington County, Virginia and Bristol, Virginia ended its recycling programs back in February.
