It may be race weekend, but thousands made their way to downtown Elizabethton for an annual tradition.
The Carter County Car Club kicked off the 2019 cruise-in season Saturday and welcomed in thousands to showcase their classic cars and benefit children’s charities across Northeast Tennessee.
“We had well over 3,000 people for our first cruise-in,” said Ron McCloud with the car club. “We also had over 350 cars. The one issue we had was finding enough parking spots for cars.”
A special guest also made his way to the event, Mike Joy of Fox Sports.
Joy was in town for race weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway.
McCloud says Joy was leaving Bristol and made his way to Elizabethton after reading about the car show in a local newspaper.
“He was a joy,” McCloud said. “He was also impressed with all the different cars and people there.”
The cruise-in serves as a fellowship event, along with benefiting children’s charities across the region.
“We were able to raise $350 just from the first day,” McCloud said.
The cruise-in happens each Saturday of the month until October.
