Teen, senior drivers participate in THP safety education events in Hawkins County

HAWKINS COUNTY Tenn. (WJHL)- Wednesday morning members of the Tennessee Highway Patrol safety education team held a few events in Hawkins County.

Lieutenant Rick Garrison with THP said they focused the education classes on teens and senior drivers based on statewide fatality rates.

As of April 10, there had been 242 traffic deaths statewide so far this year.

THP reports  50 drivers 65 and older were killed. 25 teens, ages 13 to 19, were killed.

Sergeant Nathan Hall led the class at Volunteer High School where they used the teens and trucks driving simulator as a teaching tool.

They also held a senior driver safety class at Rogersville Senior Center in Hawkins County on Wednesday.
