THP: Bicyclist killed after fatal crash on Hwy 107 in Washington County Saturday night

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A bicyclist is dead after a fatal crash that also involved a bus on Highway 107 in Washington County last night.

According to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Walter Simmons, 38, of Chuckey, was killed after attempting to cross the highway and crossed the path of a bus at 8:42 p.m.

The report says Simmons was on his bike and was trying to cross to Maple Swamp Road when he crossed into the 2004 GMC bus’ path.

Simmons was reportedly wearing a black T-shirt, black shorts, gray tennis shoes and a black backpack.

The driver and passengers in the bus were not injured.

No charges are being pressed at this time.

The crash is still under investigation.

Crews are working the scene of a crash in Washington County.

According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation SmartWay map, both lanes of traffic on State Route 107 at Bill Mauk Road remain closed at this time due to a multiple-vehicle crash.

The crash is expected to be cleared after midnight, according to TDOT.
