UPDATE September 11, 6:03 p.m.: Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) confirmed two people were injured in a crash that happened Sunday on I-81 near Kingsport.

According to the release, a 2019 Ford E450 motor home was traveling north on I-81 near mile marker 55 when the vehicle traveled off the left side of the road into the median before entering southbound lane traffic.

The motor home then reportedly struck a trailer attached to a 2018 Volvo tractor-trailer and a 2023 Kenworth tractor-trailer struck the motor home. The Nissan Altima the motor home was hauling became unattached from the car hauler during the crash. All vehicles came to a rest on the road.

Both the driver and passenger of the motor home were injured in the crash. The state of their injuries remains unknown at this time.

Charges are currently pending in the investigation and no further details have been released.

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A crash involving a motor home and a tractor-trailer is causing traffic delays on I-81 southbound in Kingsport at mile-marker 55.

According to Officer Tom Patton with the Kingsport Police Department, the crash occurred around 2:45 p.m. Traffic is reported to be backed up as far as Exit 59 in Colonial Heights.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and plan alternate routes. People in the area of the crash are being asked to use caution and obey all traffic instructions.
