WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) – A multivehicle crash on Interstate 26 that backed up both east and westbound lanes appears to be the result of a medical episode, a Johnson City spokesperson said.

According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), the crash occurred at mile marker 15 on I-26 East just before 5 p.m. Friday.

At one point, traffic was backed up to the Gray exit. In the westbound lanes, traffic was backed up past the Boones Creek exit.

A city spokesperson told News Channel 11 the woman who experienced the suspected medical episode was “OK” despite the crash.

As of 6 p.m., the crash had been cleared and traffic was flowing both ways.
