Northeast Tennessee Correctional Facility is transitioning to a ‘soft lockdown’
WJHL has learned from Tennessee Department of Corrections East Tennessee PIO that the Northeast Tennessee Correctional Facility is now transitioning to a “soft lockdown” for today leading into tomorrow.
Reburn indicated the hope is to have the lockdown fully lifted by tomorrow.
A soft lockdown, according to TDOC officials, means prisoners will not be allowed out of housing units, but will be able to head to areas, like to the commons area or for medical services. Once the lockdown is fully lifted, operations will return to normal.
The lockdown took place roughly three days ago when an officer was injured by an inmate. According to TDOC, the officer was treated at a local hospital and is OK.
Reburn added the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the hope is to have an update on the matter on Friday.
