The man accused of two armed robberies in Piney Flats and causing an hours long stand off on Interstate 26 last July is now charged.

33-year-old Christopher Brown is charged with possession of stolen property and a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, according to a release from the Johnson City Police Department.

Police say, deputies from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Johnson City Police Department were searching for Brown in black Ford Focus on July 13, 2018. He was the suspect in two armed robberies earlier that day.

An investigator tried to stop the suspect on Browns Mill Road before Brown tried to drive away, crashing on the entrance ramp to I-26. He then ran onto the bridge where a 3-hour standoff ensued.

Following an investigation, evidence linking Brown to those robberies was found inside the Focus. A .22 caliber pistol, which was reported stolen by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in March 2015, was also found.

Brown is being held in the Washington County Detention Center on a $35,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday, April 18th at 1:30 pm.
