CLINTWOOD, Va. (WJHL) – The man accused to killing another in the West Carter Valley community of Sullivan County has been arrested.

According to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Roger “Rabbit” Cornelius Roberts, 25, was arrested by Russell County, Va. deputies Thursday afternoon.

A release from SCSO stated that Roberts was arrested “without incident” in Castlewood.

Roberts is charged with second-degree murder following a homicide on Haynes Drive in Kingsport on Wednesday.

The victim of the shooting, Kyree Marcus Holmes, 24, of Memphis, died at a local hospital, where he was being treated for a gunshot wound to the chest.

Roberts is being held by the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority until he is extradited back to Sullivan County.

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — UPDATE: Sullivan County investigators are searching for a man suspected of fatally shooting a man in the West Carters Valley community on Wednesday night.

According to a release from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies are searching for Roger “Rabbit” Cornelius Roberts, 25, of Carters Valley Road in Church Hill.

Roberts is described by SCSO as a white male with brown hair and blue eyes. He is 6’3″ and weighs about 180 pounds.

Roberts is being charged with second-degree murder after deputies responded to a shooting on Haynes Drive in Kingsport.

The release says deputies responded to the home around 9:30 p.m. and found Kyree Marcus Holmes, 24, of Memphis, Tennessee, with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Holmes was transported to a local medical facility for treatment where he later died due to his injuries.

Deputies began their search for Roberts after interviewing witnesses.

SCSO is warning the public to not approach Roberts if he is seen or if his location is known. Instead, you are asked to call 911 or the sheriff’s office at 423-279-7330 immediately.

Investigators are still on the scene at Haynes Drive.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.
