SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — According to Sullivan County Mayor Richard Venable, the county is considering a property tax increase of six cents.
Two cents of that increase would be for school resource officers, two cents for county employee raises and two cents for additional jail staff (officers, nurses, etc.).
The proposed increase would cost a residential property owner $15 per $100,000 appraised value.
The budget committee will meet again next Wednesday to make a formal recommendation on the budget to the full county commission.
There will be at least two special called commission meetings before the end of June on the budget.
The new fiscal year for Sullivan County begins July 1.
