Sullivan Co. kidnapping suspect Richard Tester due in criminal court

A man charged in the 2018 kidnapping of a local teenager was due in Blountville Criminal Court at 9:00 Friday morning.

Investigators said Richard Tester took a 17-year-old Sullivan County girl across state lines back in July – prompting an Amber alert.

Court documents revealed the victim’s mother reported the kidnapping to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office. The mother told deputies her daughter spent the night of July 24 with a friend who is related to Tester and lived with him in Blountville.

Surveillance footage captured Tester and the victim at a motel in Marion, Virginia on July 25. The two were headed back to Bristol, Tennessee when an officer pulled their car over.

Tester was charged with aggravated kidnapping.
