Sullins Academy teacher in running for national award

BRISTOL, VA (WJHL) — A Southwest Virginia music teacher is among just dozens in the nation to advance in a prestigious competition.

From 2,800 nominations, Sullins Academy music and art teacher, Jill Wishon, has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Grammy Music Educator Awards for 2019.

Sullins Academy, which is located in Bristol, Virginia, recently won a national arts award and the school hopes their talents will once again be recognized.

“They work so hard, you know, it is not a one-man show here and I would love for my school and my students to get the exposure that they deserve,” Wishon told News Channel 11 Monday afternoon.

The next step for Wishon is the waiting game. She’ll learn if she has made it to the semi-finals in September.

From all of us at News Channel 11, good luck to Jill Wishon!
