A Wise County Grand Jury has returned seven charges against the subject of a 2-hour manhunt and lockdown at Mountain Empire Community College on March 20, 2019.
According to court records, David Dwayne Scott, Jr. is now charged with disorderly conduct, being a violent felon in possession of a weapon and maliciously shooting at a building. He’s also charged with grand larceny.
The Wise County Sheriff’s Office told News Channel 11 that a call came in just before 1 p.m. on Lenora Road in Big Stone Gap of a man who was armed and was threatening to harm himself, or he wanted police to hurt him.
That road is near Mountain Empire Community College.
The school was evacuated and put on lockdown.
The sheriff’s office said Scott was spotted in a wooded area near the college.
He was later arrested on school grounds.
Scott is currently being held in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail at Duffield without bond for probation violations.
No word from the Commonwealth’s Attorney if Scott has been served with warrants for the new charges.
