GRUNDY, Va. (WJHL) – Authorities say a shooting suspect is in custody after a hostage situation and standoff.

According to Sheriff Ray Foster, the hours-long standoff happened at the Appalachian Inn near Grundy.

Foster says officers had to bust in to arrest the suspect, identified as Rocky Reynolds.

The hostage was released and is doing OK, according to the sheriff.

Investigators believe Reynolds shot his girlfriend in the head in neighboring Dickenson County and dropped her off at Buchanan General Hospital in Buchanan County. Foster says she has been released from the hospital and is OK.

Reynolds has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, malicious wounding, and other charges. He was also wanted by Wise County, Grayson County, and Wythe County on multiple charges.
