Sheriff: Man charged with murder in Hurley, Va. shooting


A Buchanan County man is charged for a fatal shooting that happened March 6, 2019.

According to the Buchanan County Sheriff Ray Foster, Jeremiah Russell May is charged with 1st-Degree Murder in the death of Matthew Hurley.

On March 6, deputies were called to a shooting in the Paw Paw section of Hurley, Va. 

According to the sheriff’s office, they found Hurley and May with gunshot wounds.

Hurley was pronounced dead on the scene.

May was taken to the Pikeville Medical Center.

Over the course of the investigation, deputies alleged that during an argument, May fatally shot Hurley before shooting himself.

May is in the Pike County, Ky. jail, awaiting an extradition hearing.
