JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – Dozens of new laws will go into effect in Tennessee July 1, including some that will impact every area of state and local government.
One of those laws was prompted by a News Channel 11 Community Watchdog report.
That law prohibits the use of corporal punishment against a student with a disability, with some exceptions that include an agreement with the student’s parents or guardians.
Another law will protect victims of identity theft, allowing them to apply for a new driver’s license with a new number when presenting police reports verifying the crime.
A third law require the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to contact law enforcement when a person committed to a mental institution by a court attempts to buy a gun.
See below for a full list of the laws set to go into effect this summer.
