Scott County, Va. Sheriff introduces new K9

SCOTT COUNTY, Va. (WJHL)- Scott County’s newest K9 officer made his debut Thursday as he prepares for weeks of training.

The K9 named ‘Semper’ will be trained to track and apprehend suspects. He will also locate narcotics. 

Semper and his handler, Deputy John Gillenwater, will undergo six weeks of training before heading on patrol.

Semper will be the county’s second K9 and comes from the Czech Republic. 

The total cost for Semper, including training, was $18,000.
