Rocky Fork announces lottery for viewing of synchronous and blue ghost fireflies

UPDATE (APRIL 30, 2019): Rocky Fork State Park officials have made changes to the dates of the lottery for the viewing of synchronous and Blue Ghost fireflies.

In a Facebook post, those officials said technical issues have pushed the lottering sign ups to beginning at 8 a.m. May 3rd. They will close at 11:50 p.m. May 6th.

Winners will by notified via email within 48 hours of ticket lottery ending. 


FLAG POND, Tenn. (WJHL) – Officials at Rocky Fork State Park in Flag Pond, Tenn. have announced viewing dates for synchronous and blue ghost fireflies.

The state park posted on its Facebook page that they will open a lottery to view the fireflies this week, ‘in an effort to promote fairness.’ 

The lottery will open May 1 at 8 a.m. and close midnight May 4th.

Park officials said if you are chosen for the lottery, you will be allowed to bring a total of 6 people per vehicle.

There’s also a firefly hike option.
