Lifelong Washington County, Virginia resident, Marty Berry, announces his bid to be the county’s next sheriff.
Berry recently retired from the Washington County, VA Sheriff’s Office after serving as the patrol captain for the past 37 years.
If elected, Berry has four goals as sheriff:
- Increase the visual presence of law enforcement within communities
- Maintain a continuous working relationship with The Washington County School System
- Reduce and eliminate drug and human trafficking through implementation of new procedures
- Recognize and support mental health initiatives within the county
Berry has also served on the Abingdon Fire Department for the past 42 years and 16 years with the US Marshal’s Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.
He graduated from Abingdon High School and attended Virginia Highlands Community College. He lives with his wife, Susan Baughman Berry, of 36 years in Abingdon, VA.
