A 25-year-old mother left her 11-month-old baby alone in her Nashville residence for several hours over the weekend while she went to get breakfast with a friend, according to a Metro police report.

Officers responded to the residence of Neighn Tolerance Carey around 4 a.m. Sunday following a call from the child’s father, Carey’s ex-boyfriend, stating he could not get in touch with Carey who was supposed to be watching their baby.

According to an arrest affidavit, police tried to make contact with Carey multiple times by knocking on her door and calling her phone, but she did not answer.

Carey eventually returned her ex-boyfriend’s call and told him that she was on her way home, the paperwork stated.

Investigators said Carey claimed she left the baby alone because the child was sleeping and she was going to get breakfast with a friend.

Medics responded to check on the child who was not injured.

The Department of Children’s Services was also called to the residence.

Bond for Carey was set at $5,000.
