Person fatally struck by train in Johnson City

UPDATE – 8:20 a.m. Sept. 3: An investigation continues Thursday after a person was found dead on railroad tracks in Johnson City.

According to a release by Johnson City Police Department, officers were dispatched about 9:40 p.m. Wednesday to the railroad tracks by McKinley Road, near the West Market Street Walmart.

JCPD said that Norfolk Souther reported hitting a victim with the train.

“The victim’s vehicle was found near the scene of the incident at a section that was between crossings,” the released stated.

According to Norfolk Southern, an eastbound train struck an individual who was on the tracks around 9:30 p.m.

Neither JCPD nor railroad officials have identified the victim at this time.

Johnson City and railroad police have responded to McKinley Road in Johnson City, just behind the West Market Street Walmart.

According to News Channel 11 reporter Anslee Daniel, forensic investigators appear to be on the scene as well.
