Outdoor water park at Kingsport Aquatic Center now open for the season

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL)- Kingsport Aquatic Center’s outdoor water park officially opened for the season Monday morning. 

The park features a lazy river, two waterslides, and outdoor cabanas.

The water park is open seven days a week with varying hours each day.

The hours for the water park starting May 13 are scheduled for the following: 

            Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
            Wednesday and Saturday: 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
            Sunday: noon to 6 p.m.

In February, Kingsport city leaders approved a $2 million bid to expand the city’s aquatic center. 

The Board of Mayor and Alderman unanimously agreed to pay $2,054,600 for a new outdoor pool, shaded pavilion, walk-in freezer, and additional restrooms.

The new outdoor pool will be 2,700 square feet, four to five feet deep, and will hold 180 people. It will also be heated and will have three 25 yard lap lanes.
