UPDATE: Robert Reburn, spokesperson with the Tennessee Department of Corrections, confirms that the Northeast Tennessee Correctional Complex in Mountain City remains under lockdown as of Sunday afternoon.
The lockdown stems from a statewide lockdown from Thursday night “due to information received from external law enforcement partners.”
According to TDOC, lockdowns have been lifted at several of those institutions. The facilities still on lockdown “will return to normal operation as the department reviews additional intelligence and evaluates the security at each facility.”
The department says the lockdowns were ordered out of an abundance of caution and for the safety of inmates and staff.
According to Reburn, there is no timetable on when the lockdown will be lifted at the Mountain City facility.
