Through the month of October, you may spot some well-known folks across the Tri-Cities region sporting bright pink hair. The change is not permanent and it is all for a good cause.
Susan G. Komen Tri-Cities held the kickoff of its Big Wigs fundraiser in downtown Kingsport Thursday night. Participants wear a hot pink wig to raise money for breast cancer research and to increase awareness for the cause.
“The money that we raise this month and around the year, 75 percent of that remains in our local community to provide screening and diagnostic services for those women and men who may not have insurance, or their insurance doesn’t cover that,” said Executive Director of Susan G. Komen East Tennessee, Amy Dunaway.
News Channel 11 is joining in the pink wig fun. WJHL General Manager Kenny Lawrence is sporting a pink wig for the Big Wig campaign along with nine other VIPs.
Each big wig has pledged to raise a thousand dollars or more.
