The Spearhead Trails is leading the way for a new “water trail” in Southwest Virginia.

According to a post on the group’s Facebook page, this would be its first water trail.

The trail would include access points on the Powell River in Lee County and the Pound River in Wise County.

The goal is to establish environmentally safe access areas for fishing and floating.

The Spearhead Trails/Southwest Regional Recreation Authority group is working with the Daniel Boone Soil Conservation District and The Nature Conservancy to create those access points.

The project is being funded by an Appalachian Regional Commission grant and administered by Friends of Southwest Virginia.
