Construction of a new Pal’s Sudden Service is one step closer to being built in Abingdon following approval from the town’s Planning Commission.
On Monday, members of the Planning Commission voted to approve the construction of a new Pal’s restaurant near Cook Street and Green Spring Road, located inside the Meadows development.
According to a statement from Pal’s, there are some additional steps in the process before the approval for construction is finalized.
“We love the people of Abingdon and are excited about the possibility ability to serve customers there. We have a few more items to address toward finalization of our plans for an Abingdon location but I’m hopeful that those can be resolved so that construction can begin,” said Pal’s CEO Thom Crosby.
During Monday’s discussion, planning commissioners were debating what the Pal’s should look like and if the building should be different than the traditional style.
For example, the Pal’s built in North Johnson City has a different color brick than the traditional blue scheme.
In the end, it was decided the new Pal’s location will have the famous Pal’s look, including the blue building and food art.
No word yet on when construction will begin on the new location, or when the restaurant is set to open.
According to Pal’s, the new location will create about 60 new jobs for the town and surrounding area.
