Johnson County firefighters and crews from Carter County responded to a fire at a Butler, TN lumber yard.
Butler Volunteer Fire Department Chief Darwin Garver told News Channel 11 the fire was reported around 1:06 p.m. at Shoun Lumber on George Shoun Lane.
When firefighters’ arrived the sawmill was fully involved, Garver said.
Fire officials report welders at the lumber company were working in the sawmill when sparks caught wood shavings on fire.
Nine fire teams from Johnson County and eight fire-fighting teams from Carter County responded, Garver said. He added it took firefighters two hours to put out the fire.
Fire officials said the welders were able to get out safely and no one was hurt.
Viewers in Johnson City, TN, at one point, reported seeing smoke from the lumber yard.
The fire is now under control and crews are working to monitor hotspots.
Shoun Lumber is a family-owned business. The business owners told News Channel 11, they estimate the damage costs are in the millions.
The business owners also said this is the third time, in their 30 years in business, that the lumber company has caught fire.
