GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) – A crash on Interstate 81 that had southbound lanes backed up near mile marker 29 for around an hour was caused by a blown tire, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP).
A crash report from the THP said a vehicle was traveling south on I-81 when a tire blew, causing the driver to lose control. The report said the vehicle went from the left lane into the right, then back into the left lane again, where it struck another vehicle.
After the collision, the report said the first vehicle rolled over and came to a rest in the median. The second vehicle also landed in the median, and according to the THP, nobody inside the second vehicle sustained injuries.
All occupants of the first vehicle were transported to the hospital via ambulance, except for one juvenile and an adult driver, who were both transported via medical helicopter, according to the release.
The THP report states charges are pending against the driver of the first vehicle.
