HAWKINS COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is investigating a commercial fire in the Phipps Bend area as a possible arson.
According to a police report from HCSO, deputies were called to the fire at Contour Glass on Industrial Drive just after 4 a.m. Monday. After arriving on the scene, deputies spoke with two witnesses who said they had arrived at the storage building around 7 p.m. for work.
The witnesses reported that around 3:45 a.m., they started to smell smoke and began searching for it. The two witnesses went outside and saw that the back of the building was on fire and called 911, according to HCSO.
The report states the CEO of the company that owns the building pulled video footage that depicted a person lighting an object then throwing it into the building around 2 a.m.
Church Hill Fire Chief Luke Wood told News Channel 11 that when crews arrived on the scene around 4 a.m., they found the building engulfed in flames.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and HCSO detectives were alerted by the Church Hill Fire Department of the incident.
According to HCSO, the building was destroyed, along with a Bobcat tractor inside. The report also states that a computer in a secondary building on the property had also possibly been set on fire.
