Police say a Kingsport man is dead after a Wednesday evening crash on Interstate 81.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. at the I-81/I-26 interchange.
Kingsport police say a Mitsubishi Eclipse traveling north on I-81 was attempting to merge onto the exit ramp to I-26 west. At the same time, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle was trying to merge onto I-81 north from I-26.
At some point, the car and motorcycle collided.
Police identified the motorcyclist as 46-year-old Sammy P. Fanning. They say he died at a local hospital.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, 29-year-old Richard Estep, was not injured.
KPD says the crash remains under investigation.
