A local man has been charged following a multi-month investigation by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, ATF, and Drug Enforcement Administration.

According to a press release from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s office, the county’s VICE Unit, along with the county’s SWAT, served a warrant on Dunlap Road in Blountville, at the residence of Jason Spears.

The following information was provided by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office.

Prior to serving the search warrant, deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Jason Spears on Fort Henry Drive.  Jason Spears refused to stop for deputies and fled south on Interstate 81.  Spears’ vehicle was located later in the Gray community.

While conducting the search warrant at Spears’ residence, investigators located approximately 9 ounces of methamphetamine, a shotgun, an Uzi-style gun containing a suspected silencer, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.  An arrest warrant was obtained for Spears charging him with possession of methamphetamine for resale, possession of firearms by a convicted felon, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On May 1, 2019, investigators with the SCSO VICE Unit, along with deputies, were able to locate Jason Spears at Boone Store on Highway 75 in Kingsport.  Spears was arrested without incident on the outstanding arrest warrant.  As Spears was taken into custody, he was found to be in possession of approximately 5 ounces of methamphetamine, marijuana, pills, and drug paraphernalia.  Additional charges from yesterday’s arrest of Spears include two counts of possession of methamphetamine for resale, possession of marijuana, possession of Schedule IV narcotics, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In addition to the charges from yesterday, the motorcycle that Spears was using was seized along with $650 cash that he was carrying.  The motorcycle was a 2002 Harley Davidson.

Jason Spears is also being held in the Sullivan County Jail on a federal arrest warrant for being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of 50 grams or more of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense.
