Today as our nation observes Veterans Day we are celebrating those who have served our country. One local veteran got a big honor this weekend in New York City.
John Kob is a retired Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps and the U.S. Army. On Sunday, he marched in the largest Veterans Day celebration in the country, the National Veteran’s Day parade in New York City.
The injured veteran marched with UCLA Project Mend. This organization works with injured veterans and helps Kob with injuries he currently suffers from.
Major Kob lives outside of Mountain City and spent more than 3 decades of his life serving in the army, including deployments to Korea and Iraq.
Major Kob said he was honored to make the trip to the Big Apple to march alongside his brothers and sisters.
It doesn’t matter whether you did 2 years or you did 30 years. You still sacrificed your time and you know, some as we know have given the ultimate sacrifice and I’m fortunate that I’m just an injured veteran. I’m grateful for that,” said Kob.
Kob walked alongside thousands of his fellow service members and supporters in the national parade.
