Gavin Whitson of Erwin made it to the final three on this season of “Survivor,” but was not given the title of “Sole Survivor.”

The 24-year-old lost to Chris Underwood, who was voted this season’s winner.

Many gathered for a Survivor watch party to cheer on Whitson Wednesday night. Despite the loss, community members say they are proud.

“He is a winner in our book,” said Michael Baker, Owner of Union Street Taproom in Erwin. ” He’s always going to be our survivor here in Erwin.”

ERWIN, Tenn. (WJHL)- The Erwin “superfan” of the CBS show ‘Survivor’ has made it to the finale.

Gavin Whitson, 24, told News Channel 11 in February that he finally got the opportunity to compete after he auditioned for five consecutive seasons.

He even rescheduled his wedding to outwit, outplay, and hopefully outlast all of the other contestants.
