Gavin Whitson of Erwin made it to the final three on this season of “Survivor,” but was not given the title of “Sole Survivor.”
The 24-year-old lost to Chris Underwood, who was voted this season’s winner.
Many gathered for a Survivor watch party to cheer on Whitson Wednesday night. Despite the loss, community members say they are proud.
“He is a winner in our book,” said Michael Baker, Owner of Union Street Taproom in Erwin. ” He’s always going to be our survivor here in Erwin.”
ERWIN, Tenn. (WJHL)- The Erwin “superfan” of the CBS show ‘Survivor’ has made it to the finale.
Gavin Whitson, 24, told News Channel 11 in February that he finally got the opportunity to compete after he auditioned for five consecutive seasons.
He even rescheduled his wedding to outwit, outplay, and hopefully outlast all of the other contestants.
Whitson will now compete against four other active players.
Another player from among the 11 players on Extinction Island will also join in the final episode of the season to try to win $1 million.
There are watch parties happening here in the Tri-Cities as the region cheers Gavin on.
There will be a watch party at Union Street Taproom in Erwin and Buffalo Wild Wings in Johnson City.
ETSU also wished Gavin Whitson luck Wednesday morning on social media. The survivor finalist is an ETSU alum.
You can watch Survivor on News Channel 11 starting at 8 p.m.on Wednesday.
