Students at a small Carter Co. school are rallying behind a couple of students after a recent disaster.
The Lunsford family lost almost everything in a fire at their home recently. Two of their children attend Little Milligan School and the students at the school decided they wanted to help out the family.
“Here at Little Milligan, we are like a family. Small schools are great because we’re so close together, we always help each other when we need it,” 6th grader Lilliana Baker said.
Some of the kids decided that they would have a bake sale on Monday, with all the money collected going to the family. Tables were set up in the front entrance loaded with cakes, cookies, cupcakes, and many other baked goods and there were also juices and sodas available and even a table where you could get a flavored slush.
Students ran the sale, made the slushes, and even collected the money. They have even placed a donation box at the office.
“That’s why it’s great to go to a small school because we all are a big family,” Baker said. “We all know each other and we will all support each other no matter what.”
So many baked goods and drinks were brought in that the school decided to extend the sale to Tuesday and Wednesday and it is open to the public. Guest can come by the school after lunch both days until the end of school. Just ring the bell at the front door to be let in. Prices range from 25 cents for some of the smaller cookies and items to $1 for larger cookies and drinks.
