Johnson City has been named one of the top ten places to retire for your health, according to Kiplinger.

The article sites Johnson City’s Tweetsie Trail as a great place to exercise, Franklin Woods Community Hospital, which is a 5-star hospital, and the lively downtown.
It also notes that is a great place to hike, fish, kayak and more.

But according to the President and CEO of the Washington County/Johnson City Chamber of Commerce, Gary Mabrey, the entire region should be on that list.

“For them to say that we are a good place to live, work, play and retire, they’re really saying that northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia are also are good places to live, work, play and retire. So we were just glad to see them designate us, but we’re certainly pleased to share and say that it’s really all about all of us,” Mabrey said.

Mabrey also said the affordability and the friendly people make it a great place to retire.
