Man arrested after fatal hit-and-run in Kingsport

UPDATE: Police say a man has been arrested following a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian.

The crash happened around noon Tuesday on Interstate 26/U.S. 23 near the West Stone Drive interchange.

According to the Kingsport Police Department, a westbound Ford F-150 pickup truck went off the left side of the road, sideswiped a work truck parked in the grass median, and struck a member of the work crew, identified as Stephen Colby Blackmon, 35 of Johnson City, who was standing near the truck.

Kingsport police say Blackmon was killed by the impact. The worker inside the truck was not injured according to KPD.

The driver of the F-150, identified as Christopher Muraski, 41 of Knoxville, continued on U.S. 23 and traveled into Virginia according to police.

“Thanks to excellent communication by an eyewitness, the F-150 was located and stopped by the Weber City Police Department, and Mr. Muraski was arrested by that agency on independent but related charge(s),” KPD said in a news release.

Kingsport police say the crash remains under investigation.
