KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL)- The music department for Kingsport City Schools is once again getting national recognition.
The system has been honored as one of the ‘best communities for music education’, a designation from the National Association of Music Merchants.
The designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in providing music access and education to all students.
Hundreds of students take part in marching band, orchestra, and choir at Dobyns-Bennett High School as well as middle and elementary school programs.
This is the second year in a row Kingsport City Schools have received the designation.
Only 632 school districts were chosen from across the United States.
