JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WJHL) – A group is organizing a Monday afternoon rally in opposition of Tennessee’s education savings account bill.

The ESAs are also being called vouchers.

The Facebook event invites those opposing the legislation to join teachers, parents and other supporters of public education in voicing concerns to Tennessee State Rep. Matthew Hill (R – Jonesborough), State Rep. Micah van Huss (R – Gray) and State Sen. Rusty Crowe (R – Johnson City).

The group claims vouchers will defund schools in Northeast Tennessee.

On April 17, Tennessee Republican leaders announced they want to make small changes to the voucher-style bill that would send more money to rural schools. It’s in an attempt to secure more support in the legislature.

The rally will start at 4:30 pm at the Old Courthouse in Downtown Jonesborough on April 22.

You can find more about the rally on the Facebook Event Page.
