A poll by Blue Ridge Outdoors magazine has named Johnson City a “top adventure town”.
More than 50,000 people voted in the poll which included towns and cities across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
Johnson City won in the mid-sized town category, which includes locations with populations between 8,500 and 85,000.
Blue Ridge Outdoors will publish an article detailing the city’s outdoor features in the magazine’s October edition. The article is already available online.
The article describes Buffalo Mountain as a “must-see.” It also mentions the Tweetsie Trail, Founders Park, Tannery Knobs, and the numerous waterfalls within 25 miles of the city.
Abingdon, Virginia was also a contender in the poll’s small town category. Abingdon did not win, but it did make runner-up.
