Johnson City commissioners unanimously passed a new ordinance tonight that would ban people from camping on city property.

The ordinance makes unauthorized camping a municipal offense, carrying up to a $50 fine.

At previous commission meetings, some people voiced concerns about the impact the measure would have on the region’s homeless.

Tonight commissioners voted on its third and final reading. The ordinance takes effect July first.
