Johnson City baker fulfills dream of competing on Food Network

It was a dream come true for a downtown Johnson City baker whose creative skills were put in the national spotlight on Monday night.

Timmy Norman, owner of Cakebuds Bakery, competed on the show “Winner Cakes All” with celebrity host Giada De Laurentiis on the Food Network.

Even though his team was the first to be eliminated, Norman says just competing on the show was a big win.

“Ten years ago I made my first cake and I said in ten years I wanna be on Food Network. Wow, I can’t believe ten years almost to the day I fulfilled this dream of mine,” says Norman.

And the Food Network run isn’t the only dream Norman has made a reality.

Just ten years ago he left everything behind, a career and a degree in graphic design, the pursue his passion for making cakes full time.

He made his first cake for his son’s birthday, and realized he had a knack for it.

“Eventually I just got too busy I was doing 40 hours a week in graphic design and then spending all night making cakes,” says Norman.

That’s when he quit his job, opened his bakery, and started reaching for the stars.

“Is this really happening? It almost feels like a dream even now it feels like I’m dreaming,” says Norman.

Since then, the bakery has had sweet success in downtown Johnson City.

Norman says he is hungry for more Food Network appearances in the future.

Cakebuds Bakery is located at 410 S Roan Street.
