Jesse Taylor admits he wasn’t the best student while growing up in Elizabethton, but his middle school teacher Vivian Johnson at TA Dugger planted a seed that grew into a desire to teach.
Now, he’s in his fifth year as a teacher and football coach at Daniel Boone High School He teachers sophomore, junior, and senior US History and also teaches an elective in Outdoor sports and recreation, his true passion.
He says it’s a thrill to teach what he calls, “The greatest story ever written” and adds it’s even more rewarding to watch his students gravitate towards the history of the country.
“I’ve had kids come and in and say coach US History isn’t really my thing I don’t’ enjoy it. I say bear with me maybe I’ll change your mind. It’s so cool I’ll tell a story you’ll see a kid try to concentrate on something else and be disinterested then you’ll catch him froze listening to me or they’ll say coach do you remember that story you told I went home and looked up more info and I can’t believe that happened that’s the cool stuff. I like that,” said Taylor.
