JCPD: Man unhappy with food puts knife to wife’s throat

Tri-Cities police say a man unhappy with his lunch order held a knife to his wife’s throat inside a Johnson City restaurant.

It happened just before 2 p.m. Wednesday at Longhorn Steakhouse on North Roan Street, according to a police report.

Police say John Hettinga, 58, became agitated because his food hadn’t been prepared correctly.   When his wife asked him to calm down, police say Hettinga grabbed a steak knife, held it to her face and throat, demanded car keys and drove away.

Police say they tracked Hettinga to a nearby hotel where they charged him with Aggravated Domestic Assault.

He’s set for a Thursday afternoon arraignment in Washington County General Sessions Court.
