Police say a man is facing charges after he fired a gun and fled the scene of a car crash before cops could get there.

Johnson City Police responded to a crash Friday evening at N. Roan Street and Liberty Bell Boulevard.

Witnesses told police that after the crash, Mike Thomas, 39 of Johnson City, got out of his vehicle, grabbed a rifle, and fired a shot in an unknown direction.

Thomas then took off before officers arrived on scene. They found him about a block away from where the crash occurred.

Police say he appeared to be impaired when they found him. They located his rifle in a nearby bush.

Officers also found a handgun, methamphetamine, and crack cocaine inside Thomas’ vehicle, according to JCPD.

Thomas is facing three counts of felony reckless endangerment, two counts of possessing a firearm while being a convicted felon, two counts of possessing a firearm while under the influence, driving under the influence, and several other charges.

He was arrested and taken to the Washington County Detention Center where he is being held on a $84,000 bond. An arraignment has been scheduled for September 24.
