JCPD: Knoxville man tries to cash fake $3,000 check, now faces charges

Investigators with the Johnson City Police Department say a Knoxville man faces charges of passing counterfeit checks and attempting to pass one worth over $3,000. 

According to a police report, JCPD charged Milton Mitchell, 40, of Knoxville with criminal simulation.  

Investigators say officers with the department responded to the report of a counterfeit check being passed at Bank of Tennessee on West State of Franklin in Johnson City on Tuesday, May 14. 

According to the report, Mitchell attempt to pass a check in the amount of $3,200.71.  

Investigators say that employees called 911 because Mitchell was successful in passing counterfeit checks earlier in the day.  

Milton’s arraignment is set for today at 1:30 p.m.
