The motto “In God We Trust” is now being displayed in schools through Carter County.

Carter County Schools Superintendent Dr. Kevin Ward tells News Channel that the motto was placed in schools in late February and early March.

At the start of 2018-19 school year, schools across the state were required by law to have the motto displayed.

Up until a couple of months ago, school leaders in Carter County did not display the motto, saying their legal counsel advised them not to due to a legal issue from 30 years ago.

After months of meetings with officials and legal counsel, the system says they feel they are able to display the motto, complying with state law.
